I was able to present a session yesterday at the Biennial TAIS (Tennessee Association of Independent Schools) on Mobile Technology in the Preschool & Elementary School Classroom. It went very well and I was glad to share my experiences at BBS with other schools as well as get information from other schools to use here at BBS.
The morning presenter was a very knowledgeable and entertaining speaker - Dr. JoAnn Deak. She spoke on learning and brain research. Her website is: http://www.deakgroup.com/
I also attended a session on Virtual Field Trips and I have posted those links on this website as well. This session was taught by Deanna Beckman at Battle Ground Academy. Her website is: https://sites.google.com/site/bgatechchick/
I went to a session on iMovie in the elementary grades and that, combined with training from our own Bradley Chambers, has given me the confidence to do a project with Mrs. Gruner (on photosynthesis) in iMovie with our 5th graders later this month. I had used iMovie while working on my Master's degree (pre-2004) but needless to say, it has changed a LOT - still very intuitive though. I think the kids will do a great job with it.
Finally, I attended a session on Raising Media Wise children by Dr. David Walsh (http://drdavewalsh.com/blog/). It was amazing and eye-opening to realize how much time our kids are spending in front of a screen and how much even we as adults are connected to and distracted by technology.
I am looking forward to continuing to learn and share the knowledge I gain with our students here at BBS!
